    John McMenemy

    Clinical Director

    Our Clinical Director, Team lead and specialist consultant MSK physiotherapist, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our organisation. His previous experience as an extended scope practitioner and lecturer within orthopaedics gives John a great overview of all MSK injuries, conditions and the effect they have on mental health and wellbeing.

    John has many specialist areas of expertise and in particular spinal pathology, degenerative and neurological conditions to which he has had many research papers published on. Outwith this John is consultant physiotherapist of choice to many leading sports people and athletes and is regularly called upon as a consultant to national sports bodies and governmental organisations.

    In addition to this, he works in conjunction with numerous orthopaedic surgeons as consultant physiotherapist in spinal conditions where referral pathways are implemented through Core Physio rehabilitation centres.

    Mr Imran Liaquat

    Consultant Neurosurgeon

    Mr Imran Liaquat graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 2002 and undertook his basic surgical training in the West of Scotland. He then worked as a registrar for a year in London at Kings College Hospital and St Georges Hospital.

    Following this, he would return to Scotland in order to complete his speciality training in neurosurgery in Scotland. Later in his career, Mr Liaquat would undertake a sub-specialist fellowship in neurosurgery at St Georges Hospital, where he gained experience in all aspects of General Neurosurgery and Neuro-oncology, including Awake Craniotomy, Fluorescence guided tumour resection and management of Low Grade Gliomas. He is currently a consultant at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.

    Mr Liaquat deals with a wide range of spinal pathologies, such as degenerative spine, general neurosurgery and neuro-oncology. He is also involved in research in these fields, having published over 15 research paper/abstract publications and presented at national and international conferences.

    Mr Liaquat has a keen interest in the education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students and has completed a Masters in Surgical Education, in an attempt to help him improve his educational skills.  He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and Clinical Tutor at the University of Edinburgh and has recently been accredited as a Member of the Academy of Medical Educators.

    Mr Liaquat will be available for consultation at our clinic in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire and Bothwell, North Lanarkshire.

    Dr Martin Simpson

    General Practitioner

    In addition to his role as consultant GP at Core Physio, Dr Simpson is also senior partner at Low Waters Medical Centre, also delivering the once monthly GP led Blantyre pain clinic since its inception in 2003.

    With his special interest he see patients with a wide variety of chronic/persistant pain such as post surgical, low back, post fracture, chronic arthritic, fibromyalgia, chronic regional pain syndrome and post radiotherapy pain.

    Working as a full time NHS GP partner at Low Waters Medical Centre Hamilton for the past 14years. he has also had the privilege of been senior partner for the past 8years

    Shane Ryan

    Physiotherapist

    Shane has developed his experience, knowledge, and skills to become specialised in the management of Shoulder & Upper-Limb conditions. His thorough understanding of pain mechanisms and specialist training has provided him with the tools to treat conditions such as rotator-cuff conditions, arthritic shoulders and Tennis-Elbow.

    Shane has experience in dealing with a wide range of post surgical conditions. Experience gained working within dynamic A&E and trauma clinics also allowed him to develop skills in the diagnostics and treatment of acute injuries.

    Through his hobbies and academics, he has developed an interest in strength and conditioning providing him with the skills to rehabilitate patients back to their sport or job.

    Ronnie Smith

    Physiotherapist

    Ronnaug(Ronnie) qualified as a Physiotherapist from Oslo University College in 2000,and as a Pilates(APPI) Instructor in 2011.

    She has worked in a variety of hospitals in Norway,Iceland and Scotland, with experience within Neurology, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Oncology,Paediatrics and Musckuloskeletal Medicine.
    She has also taught a variety of Mensendieck and Pilates classes, and has worked in private practice since 2010.

    Post graduate training courses:
    APPI Matwork Pilates ( level 1-3), Cognitive Physiotherapy, Body Awareness Therapy and Body Awareness Rating Scales, Empathic Communication and Trigger Point Pilates™( level 1,2).

    Matthew Stevenson

    Physiotherapist

    Matthew is a highly specialised and experienced physiotherapist working both within the sporting field and private arena.

    Since graduating with his Hons degree in physiotherapy Matthew has worked in a variety of settings within the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy; including private GP practices, sports injury clinics, musculoskeletal departments, A&E, fracture clinics and chronic pain programmes.

    As a special interest, Matt is involved as a direct consultant for many sports and medical organisations for lower limb rehabilitation.  As a previous professional sportsman he recognises the importance of functional rehabilitation of lower limb injuries.  Cruciate ligament injuries of the knee and achillies tendon injuries are his passion and speciality.

    Matthew has achieved many Postgraduate Certificates in Advanced Musculoskeletal Clinical Practice including Mulligans’ Concept.

    He is also fully qualified in medical acupuncture bringing a wealth of experience to assist his clients to regain full health.

    Stuart Johnston

    Physiotherapist

    Stuart started his training in rehabilitation with his HND in Sports Therapy, followed by his degree in Physiotherapy with a first class honours.  Throughout his studies Stuart gained experience in medical, orthopaedic and neurological rehabilitation, with his main passion focused on musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

    With specialist interests in knee and lower limb tendon injuries, Stuart is currently researching  rehabilitation protocols of knee tendon injuries and strength-training in conjunction with the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.

    Stuart has an extensive background in strength and conditioning, powerlifting, martial arts and is also a keen ultra marathon runner.  As a combined result of his academic training and personal training experience, he has extensive knowledge and practical skills in helping people to achieve their goals.

    Moose Baxter

    Prosthetist

    In conjunction with Dorset Othopaedic, Mr Moose Baxter provides our Specialist Prosthetic Clinic at Core Physio – Hamilton.

    With ten years’ experience as a Prosthetist and Orthotist, Moose joined Dorset Orthopaedic’s Midlands Clinic in 2013. Moose began his career working in the NHS after graduating from the University of Strathclyde. After this he spent three years leading a team of Prosthetists supporting injured service people at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre Headley Court.

    Moose has specialist experience in the areas of complex high-level upper limb prosthetics, including Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR), a surgical procedure designed to enable arm amputees to use their prosthesis intuitively. In addition, Moose has expertise in osseointegration and multi limb loss.

    For Moose, the most important aspects of his job are the relationships that he builds with his patients. He feels motivated when he knows that a patient trusts him and comes to him for help when taking on a new challenge.

    Fraser McIntosh

    Physiotherapist

    Fraser graduated with BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy.  Since qualifying, he’s progressed through the NHS working in Glasgow and Lanarkshire before building a regular client base within the private sector.

    As an exceptional hockey player, Fraser has always been involved in elite sport and built a keen interest in sports injuries, especially injuries of the lower limb.

    Based at our head office and main rehabilitation clinic in Hamilton, Fraser has assisted implement one of the most comprehensive lower limb injury programmes in Scotland assisting many clients through post-surgical rehabilitation.

    Pat Cremin

    Sports Rehabilitator

    Pat graduated with BSc in Sports Rehabilitation & Athletic Therapy.   Originally from Kerry in Ireland, Pat took an interest in sports injury rehabilitation & conditioning as a promising Gaelic football player with several junior medals and awards.  As a result of this he has had the honour to be trained by S&C coaches of the highest calibre and exposure to elite coaching has moulded his own coaching philosophies and developed his ability to successfully communicate with a variety of clients & athletes.

    At University he was the head of Sports Rehabilitation for the sports clubs, worked with international athletes, planned rehabilitation and performance programmes and when needed individualised programmes.

    Alongside his work here at Core Physio, Pat also is studying towards his masters degree in physiotherapy to enhance his skills and allover knowledge.
